Acne

Spots, papules and pustules, often along the jaw, chin and cheeks.

Acne happens when oil, skin cells and bacteria collect in the follicle and the surrounding skin becomes inflamed. It can appear at any age, and adult acne behaves differently from teenage acne.

We assess the pattern, the distribution and what has already been tried, and we are clear about when something is better managed by a GP or dermatologist rather than in clinic.

Questions

Frequently asked

Will a facial make my acne worse first?
Some skin goes through a short settling period after resurfacing or extraction. We tell you what to expect before we start, and we work at the level your skin will tolerate.
Do I need to stop my prescribed treatment?
No. Bring the details to your consultation. We work around prescribed treatment and, where relevant, we will ask you to speak to your prescriber first.
How long before anything changes?
Skin turns over roughly every four weeks, so most plans are reviewed at four to six weeks rather than judged after one visit.
