Chemical Skin Peels

What are chemical skin peels and how does it work?

A chemical skin peel provokes regeneration of the skin by causing controlled damage to the top layers of the epidermis. Skin peels are grouped into 4 main categories; very superficial, superficial, medium and deep which refers to how deep the product penetrates the skin. In clinic we generally offer a very superficial or superficial skin peel but on occasion may offer a medium peel. Skin peels aim to improve your skin texture and integrity by brightening and giving a smooth, fresh and plump surface. They can also help to lessen irregular pigmentation.

How Long does chemical skin peeling take?

Most peels will take a 30 minute appointment slot

What do we use it to treat?

We use skin peels to treat a number of conditions such as rough texture, enlarged pores, some pigmentation changes (such as Hyperigmentation and Melasma), early signs of skin aging, acne, skin blemishes and some other inflammatory skin conditions.

How Often Do you need a treatment?

We recommend a treatment every 4-6 weeks and a course of 3-6 treatments is best.

Does chemical skin peeling hurt?

Most patients experience a tingling, warm itching or stinging sensation. The deeper the peel depth the more heightened this sensation will be.

When Will I notice Results?

Generally 1 week after, however some of the more superficial peels show results in a matter of days.

Is There any Recovery Time?

For very superficial and superficial peels some dryness and flaking may occur in the first week. Patients should use a hydrating moisturiser and avoid irritating products. Sunscreen of at least SPF30 should be worn as part of your daily routine (available to buy in clinic). Long durations in the sun and sunbeds should be avoided for 2 weeks. Makeup should be avoided for 24 hours and flushing of the skin should be avoided for 24-48 hours e.g. exercise, sauna etc.
